OLD NECKLACE

A necklace made about 4,000 years ago seems to be the oldest piece of  gold jewelry ever found in the Americas.  While excavating a site for human remains in Peru, Mark Aldenderfer discovered the necklace near Lake Tikicaca.

It has actually been kept secret for about seven years to avoid any looting at the site.  TheAndean people lived there about that time.  The significance of this find shows status symbols in existence before kings and queens ever ruled.

The National Institute of Peru is holding the necklace until a decision is made to display it in a museum.
